Why a bath and floor drain get blocked
In the bathroom, things that don’t dissolve go down the drain. Here is what we pull out most often.

What you can do yourself — and when to stop
Baths and floor drains are mostly blocked by hair — you can pull it out yourself. Here is what is safe — and where it is better to stop.
You can
- Pull hair out with a hookLift the grate or the drain plug and pull the hair out with a plastic hook or tweezers.
- Lift and wash the floor drain grateThe main clump usually sits under it — take it out and rinse the drain trap.
- A plunger with the overflow coveredCover the bath overflow with a wet cloth, or the pressure escapes through it, and make 10–15 sharp pulls.
Don’t
- Pour chemicals into standing waterThey don’t reach the blockage, and the technician then has to work in a caustic solution.
- Pour boiling water into plasticPlastic pipes and traps deform, and the joints start to leak.
- Push wire into the floor drainIt breaks the drain trap, and then it has to be replaced.
When to stop: the grate and the drain are clean but the water still stands — the blockage is further, in the pipe, and only a cable will clear it.

A bath, shower tray or floor drain is 200 ₾. If the blockage is further, in the flat’s pipe, it’s 350 ₾ for the whole pipe. Evenings (18–22) +25%, nights (22–9) +50%, weekends as weekdays. We give the total on the phone before we come.
Why does the floor drain smell?
Most often the water seal has dried out — the water in the drain trap that holds back the sewer smell. Pour a bucket of water in. If the smell stays or water drains slowly, the trap is blocked and needs cleaning.
How often should a floor drain be cleaned?
The grate — whenever you see hair and dirt on it. If the drain is rarely used, pour water into it once a week so the water seal doesn’t dry out.
Will a hair remover help?
On a fresh blockage, while water still drains, sometimes. In standing water — no: the solution won’t reach the blockage. We don’t use chemicals — we pull the hair out and clear the drain with a cable.
Water from the floor drain is leaking to the neighbours — what do I do?
